Everyday-life concept scene from the building journey

Dalrada + ATI of New York · Hot water. Reimagined.

Many homes. One coordinated hot-water system.

A central system serves many households with different daily patterns. The assessment needs both the total energy requirement and the periods when showers and other uses overlap.

New York project planning

Central hot water for New York multifamily buildings

For an occupied apartment building, connect the demand study to resident use and the existing distribution network. Keep the DHW assessment separate from space heating, then bring both into the building’s wider engineering and emissions review where applicable.

  • Apartment count, occupancy and measured demand if available
  • Morning and evening peaks, storage and recirculation losses
  • Resident service continuity and installation access

Build a demand picture

Gather apartment and occupancy information, measured hot-water use where available, fixture assumptions and peak periods. State the assumptions explicitly instead of treating every apartment as an identical load.

Include the distribution system

Recirculation losses, stored-water temperatures, mixing and delivery conditions affect system design. Review water hygiene and temperature control with the project team; the preliminary tool does not replace that design.

Compare an implementable retrofit

Review roof access, structure, electrical capacity, storage location and continuity of service. Assess domestic hot water separately from space heating before drawing conclusions about whole-building emissions.

Questions before you begin

Can daily demand alone size the storage?

No. Usable stored energy, timing of peaks, recovery and distribution conditions also matter.

Does this establish eligibility for an incentive?

No. Location, utility, building category, equipment and application timing must be checked against the current program requirements.
